Vaults in banks contain customer safe deposit boxes as well as places for teller cash drawers and other assets. The walls are constructed of steel-reinforced concrete and usually have steel plates inside the floor and ceiling to prevent break-ins. These walls are created with immense thickness for strength. Noise and vibration sound detectors pick up drills or any tunneling from the ground.
Bank vaults now have electronic, timed locks to prevent anyone from forcing a bank manager to open it after-hours. Even with the combination, the safe only opens during business hours or only when the armored service driver is also there with a second combination. This lock also prevents thieves from trapping victims inside the vault. Because of this, modern bank vaults have an air vent to let fresh air in.
