Thorazine is a low-potency drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia (the severe disruption in thought and perception). It helps control false perceptions, such as hallucinations or delusions. Thorazine is also prescribed for the short-term treatment of severe behavioral disorders in children as well as certain phases of manic-depressive illness. Thorazine can be used to control nausea and vomiting, and to relieve restlessness and apprehension before surgery.
Patients taking substances that slow down mental function such as alcohol, barbiturates, or narcotics, should not use Thorazine.
